Description

I was recently introduced to the surprisingly entertaining dice game Ship, Captain, Crew. While this was fun to play with regular D6s (a six is a captain, a five is a ship, etc.), a relative immediately asked if I could 3D print a custom set. I have the best relatives.

There are a number of online sites that explain the very simple gameplay (here's another). Basically, you have three rolls to roll each of a ship, a captain, and a crew, in order, then as much cargo as you can. At each roll, you decide which rolled dice to keep, and which to reroll; if you succeed in getting a full set, the cargo is worth points. Simple, but more fun than you would think.

To play, you need five dice (same or different colors, doesn't matter). To give as a gift, you don't NEED the dice-holder book... but don't you want one?

###Print Settings

  • The dice should be printed at 100% infill. No printed dice are exactly fair (actually very few non-casino dice are exactly fair), but 100% infill improves it.
  • The book may or may not need supports because of the embossed design on the front cover. My printer bridged it okay (see pic), but your mileage may vary.
  • If you want the book to be two colors, set a pause in your sliced file where the pages start, and change to a page-colored filament.

###Post Printing

Glue four 10x3 magnets into the round slots, being (from experience) very careful of orientation. I used CA glue. Let it cure thoroughly.

###Special Notes

I used images for the captain and ship from CC0 sources. However, some sources steal their content and relabel it, so it's actually difficult to know 100% if you have usage rights for something. Feel free to contact me about it.
