Description

So, if you have brought one of these biggies to the party, other people will likely try to lean on it, sit on it, and finally make the wheels crush into the base plate.

While this is utterly annoying (from a behavioural and product design point of view), there is help. Manufacturer Teufel offers to send in your speaker to their Berlin HQ (you pay for shipping) and they will fix it at an undisclosed price.

Shipping that 34 kg monstrosity is a drag and the total enterprise may be pretty costly, you say? Bloody well right.

Which is why I sat down and designed a base plate myself, have a woodcutting company that accepted .step-files as templates slice me two (https://www.cutworks.com/de/), and have them sent to me. Then...

  • Remove the original wheels

  • Replace them with wheels that have proper wheelbearings and 4 screws each (I used these https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0B93P68JS?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)

  • Glue the base plate to your Rockster XL

  • BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DRILLING HOLES FOR THE SCREWS!

  • Add a screw at each corner of your new baseplate and screw it into the original one (4x30mm screws will do) and avoid the places where the bottom bumpers are screwed into the body

  • Screw your new wheels in to the base at approximately the spots where the original wheels have been (this is where the four screws come in handy, as you can place them around the original wheel sockets)

  • Et voilà: You now have a much more rugged Rockster XL that will be easier to be rolled around!

If you are very, very curious and want to 3D print this, please do it at your own risk. I added a .step file so you can mess around as you like.

NB: The file here is better than the base plate in the photo - I have removed the few milimeters of inaccuracy that can be spotted here by the eagle-eyed.
