Description
For people who want to make a hedgehog feeding station in their garden.
I designed and printed this silo together with the top cap (it is the same cap as for the bird feeder I made) which can hold kitten kibble (be advised : on the photo it is a box of regular cat food). The 100 mm OD clear polycarbonate tube acts as the container and the 30° slope of the bottom part should make sure the kibble keeps coming down in the little tray. There is a 4mm hole in the bottom so you can screw it down to a piece of wood from the underside. This is necessary, because hedgehogs are not subtle animals and easily knock things over. I used a 4.5mm x 45mm screw which works fine.
I placed the piece of wood with the silo inside a piece of 250mm OD PVC tubing and closed one side off with a lid. The other side is connected to a 110mm tunnel to keep cats out.
This is a really fun project and I would suggest you install a camera inside to check out the - mainly nightly - visitors to your new garden restaurant. I've had shrews, wood mice and of course hedgehogs so far.
