Description
In the late 1940s, Schneider, a leading company in artillery development, created a family of self-propelled gun mounts that featured a high-speed chassis and mechanized loading systems. The Schneider 120 AC Gendarme project aimed to develop a more mobile version of the powerful 120mm gun than the AMX Foch heavy tank destroyer. Additionally, an alternative design for a 130mm naval gun was explored. The tactics of using such combat vehicles were similar to those of the AMX-13: the contents of two "drum" were fired at the target, followed by reloading in cover. The fate of the Schneider 120 AC Gendarme was similar to that of other French tank destroyers. In the early 1950s, it was decided to equip future heavy tanks with the same 120mm guns, eliminating the need for specialized tank destroyers. The vehicle's specifications can be modified without compensation.
