Description
A little idea that's been rattling around inside my head; the Galaxy class, Frontier refit.
Designed to be deployed to remote sectors for prolonged periods, where Star Fleet needs to establish a forward operating base.
The modified Galaxy class carries two docked Defiant class ships, and a Nova class, as well as a small squadron of Danube class runabouts.
Whilst docked, power from the smaller ships can be used to supplement that of the Galaxy hull, allowing for higher maximum warp speeds for longer periods, and higher deflector shield output.
Due to the intricacies of this power dustribution system, the saucer seperation ability is disabled. The former "battle bridge" is converted to act as an Admiral's strategic command centre, with its own dedicated sensor and communication systems - allowing the admiral and his staff full coordination of his fleet, whilst remaining seperate from the main Galaxy bridge.
To accomadate the Nova docking pylon, the primary Impulse engines of the Galaxy would be the saucer-section drives, with the neck units being used only if the Nova isn't docked, and when extra maneuverability is called for.
The crews of the smaller ships are able to enjoy use of the facilities of the Galaxy class on route to their destination, and inbetween local deployments.
This, and the added supply capacity of the Galaxy greatly increases the range and endurance of the Defiants and Nova.
This is a work in progress, but feel free to tinker with the design!
The ships have recesses for 6mm button magnets, and the Galaxy class hull has a hole for a 6mm support rod
