Description
This was designed as a stand alone spool holder / case combination. When each spool is not in use, the central hub collapses on itself and can be closed off to prevent dust and moisture exposure. There is enough room at the bottom for adding desiccant packets to remove moisture (if needed).
NO EXTRA SUPPORTS NEEDED TO PRINT.
Once printed, gently twist center post of part #1 to break integrated supports. Then pull out to be fit to the keyed part #2. Spools can be easily changed out by separating parts through the keyhole.
Can support Makerbot filament and other spools up to 21cm in diameter (Central hub down to 30mm in diameter) and up to 11.5cm in width. The central hub for this design is 28mm in diameter and a simple adapter can easily make it accommodate larger hub sizes.
UPDATE: Added Makerbot Spool adapter. Mini adapter is thin enough to not consume a lot of filament. Print two and insert into both sides of spool.
UPDATE 9/4/2015: Split the parts for printing on smaller bed size. Each part (now subdivided into 'a' and 'b') is still printable without additional supports. Both 'a' pieces have break away supports where they overlap with the 'b' parts. The largest part is 147mm x 233mm x 120mm.
