Description
Currently, autologous bone grafting is considered the "Gold Standard" for bone regeneration. This is because it brings together the three fundamental elements for bone regeneration to occur:
It is a material...
Osteogenic
Osteoconductive
and Osteoinductive
However, its removal, in addition to having as its main drawback the need for a donor site, is often associated with complications such as pain, bleeding, the appearance of scars and infections, and fractures.
Therefore, orthopedic surgeons often opt for the use of decellularized bone blocks of animal origin, or the use of synthetic biomaterials with a specific structure and composition (often hydroxyapatite) that can be used as filler biomaterials to promote bone regeneration. These are often sold in the form of chips or blocks such as those presented in this model.
