Description
OSIRIS-REx is a mission with the primary goal of collecting samples of the asteroid 101955 Bennu and returning it back to Earth so we can study more about its composition and hopefully get hints of life origins in the solar system. The mission was launched in September 2016, in October 2020 OSIRIS-REx captured Bennu’s samples and will return to Earth in 2023.
The model has all the main instruments such as cameras, antennas, sample return capsule, robotic arm, thrusters, and solar arrays. Its dimensions [240 mm (W) 100 mm (D) and 140 mm (H)] make an amazing model to display on your desk or with the other models of your space collection.
The printing process is quick and easy using standard supports. On its original scale, a regular print bed of 200 X 200 mm and a 0.4 mm nozzle is all that you need for this print. For reduced scales it is recommended to use smaller nozzles (0.3 mm and 0.2 mm). The tolerances are well within 0.2 to 0.5 mm so just minor sanding and filling will be required if you have a tuned printer. The assembly process does not require any special tools other than glue, files and sandpaper for the finishing.
The assembly allows for two interchangeable options of displaying – on a stand with robotic arm extended or retracted, and in action capturing samples of Bennu’s surface as if it were in zero gravity.
Either if you are a space enthusiast or you are looking for a inspiring model to unleash your inner space explorer, this is a great chance so make sure to add this one to your collection!
