Modular Monitor Riser - with drawers - Gridfinity

March 7, 2025
Description
This model is designed to generate a modular Monitor riser for each porpuse.
It Includes:
- Different width of drawer based on the gridfinity dimension, from 2 - 5 gridfinity slots
- A depth of 4 gridfinity slots
- Different riser heights 60, 80 and 100 mm
- Hanging drawer for cables or keyboard
- Desk drawer (move on the desk) for heavy things
- Stacked drawer
Drawer Types
Desk Drawer:
Moves on the desk but has a guide screwed to the wooden board to ensure a nice fit. Especially when you want to store heavy things this is the way to go because the mass does not hang on the wooden board (sagging) and more inmportant the printed guidance.
Hanging Drawer:
Has a guidance screwed to the wooden board, perfect when you need space under you drawer for cable oder other stuff like keyboard. And also used for the top drawer when you want to stack them. When you want to stack them it need to have exactly half of the riser height, otherwise you can choose the height as you want (equal or smaller than the riser).
Desk Drawer for stacked drawer:
The bottom drawer of the stacked drawer have the same width as the hanging drawer on top to ensure a nice fit. The guidance have spigots on the side which can easily click into the riser. It has excatly half of the riser height.
Dimensions
The dimension of the wooden board need to be 200x20mm and I recommend to measure the dimension and not take it from the label, my board was 201 mm in reality and it broke my riser. Therefore I sanded it down to 200 mm where the board fits in the riser.
The length of the wooden board depend on the setup you need. Here is the list of the drawer width to calculate your board length:
Gridfinity size | ||||
Drawer Type | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
Desk | 91mm | 133mm | 175mm | 217mm |
Hanging | 101.5mm | 143.5mm | 185.5mm | 227.5mm |
For the stacked drawer you need to take the hanging drawer width, even when the bottom drawer is on the desk. And you also need a addional mid riser. (also usefull to support the wooden board and prevent sagging).
This mid riser has a width of 28 mm.
The normal riser frame has a width of 25 mm which is of course also added to the total.
I recommend to cut the board 3-5 mm shorter than the total length to generate a nice fit.
For example you want to have 3 desk drawer with a gridfinity width of 3 and 1 stack drawer with the gridfinity width of 4
- Two outer riser 2*25 = 50mm
- One mid riser 1*28 = 28 mm
- Stacked drawer(Hanging width) 1*143.5
Desk drawer 3*133=399
→ The wooden board needs to be 620.5 mm (3-5 mm shorter)
Alternatively, you can of course print and measure everything together :).
The is also the possibilty to use the riser without the cover, then the length of the wooden board depened on how you want to have it.
For each riser height there is a print profile with the riser and drawer included, whereas the drawer height of the hanging drawer is the half of the riser height which needed for stacked drawer.
For the hanging drawer there are also seperate print profiles with differtent heights.
The guidance for the different drawer types are included in a seperate print profile as these are identical for all riser heights.
The Drawer handle, spacer for assembly and an screw insert (more Information in assembly) can also be found in the print profile with the guidance.
Assembly
To generate a nice looking front a proper assembly is key. The gaps between the drawer should only be 1mm to smoothen with the lamella front of the drawer.
I recommend to reference all componente to the back face of the wooden board and use something flat as reference stop there and align everything to that.
Spacer for desk drawer
For the desk drawer a spacer is included to ensure the correct distance between the guidance.
Screw Insert
The holes in the prints are desgined for countersunk screws. However due to the tight tolerances for a nice looking front this can be a problem when a screw is misaligned. Then it is possible to use the screw insert and a flat head screws to have a certain amount of leeway. I know it is not the best way, but it works in the most cases when the screw is misplaced. For the front screws of the drawer this method does not work, as the flat head screw would interact with the drawer!
Wooden Board
The edges of the wooden board need to be removed otherwise it interfeer with the fillet of the rise (only when the riser with cover is used).
About 10x10mm need to be cut away.
Handle
The handle can simply be inserted into the drawer but I recommend to add some glue, otherwise it is a little bit loose
