Description

This greenhouse system was a passion project I accidentally created while day dreaming about my future homestead life. I wish to share it with all of you whom it may serve useful, please share your feedback for how the project could be improved. The greenhouse photographed is just under 20 feet in diameter and took about 3 days to put together. The purpose of these hubs is to reduce the construction skills, knowledge, and tools needed to create such a structure. The hubs take care of all the complex geometry allowing for the whole structure to be built using only straight cuts meaning the only tools necessary are a saw and drill. The system is completely modular allowing triangles to be removed and replaced at any point during the domes life making repairs or upgrades possible! I attached a spread sheet calculator tool for finding the board lengths to make your triangles. 

 

Post any questions you may have! I also have loads of photos/videos from the build process I would be happy to share as instructions if there is any demand for it. 

 

 

This dome geometry is made from one triangle mirrored with a left and right 30 of each (60 total). After your triangles are assembled and wrapped you just screw them together alternating left and right triangles attaching mirroring sides.

 

  • Print in asa filament for its uv resistance and strength. 
  • The hubs are designed for 2by1 lumber
  • Use pressure treated wood or something like cedar because it is moist 
  • I recommend glueing the board ends where they meet the hubs 
  • Use the ratio calculator sheet below to find your board lengths
  • Recommend 30-40% Infill and 4 walls (depending on dome size)
  • I fastened to the ground using a bag of ground pegs attached to rodent mesh stapled to the dome
