Hydro Seed Starter

I created this assembly with the goal of starting my seedlings in a unit that is direct plug-and-play with a hydroponic tower—specifically, the hydroponic tower created by Christiansoteloand remixed by Dextera.

Directions

  1. Fill tray with soil medium ( I use 100% Coco mix with perlite. Rock wool would be a good choice as well)
  2. Place the tray in the reservoir filled partially with water
  3. Once medium in damp, sew seeds, and add tray shelf with moisture absorbing material (I use cheese cloth) drapped over into the water. This will provide the soil and roots with adequate water without oversaturating.
  4. Cover with hood until sprouting
  5. When ready to transplant into hydroponic tower, simply reverse the shelf and pop the pods out from the bottom

Recomendations

  • Use brim while printing the HSS_Reservoir and HSS_Hood. This will improve adhesion and reduce the chance of corner lift,
  • To maximize hood transparency, print walls at a very slow speed (>100mm/s) and ensure all bottom surface layers are in the same direction.
