Description

I wanted to wall mount the 100% sized NCC 1701-D Starship Enterprise model that I'd printed from Gambody. So I designed one.

To be clear, this model is JUST the wall mount, not the Enterprise model itself.

There are three parts:

  • The bottom mount that grabs on to the bottom of the model
  • The top wall mounted plate
  • The top arm that slides into the wall mounted plate and then grabs on to the top of the saucer section.

Installation

Make sure you install these into a wall stud, as screwing into drywall by itself is setting yourself for disaster. Start with the bottom mount, screw it in, making sure it's vertical. It's recommended to get a 2nd person to help you for the next part. Gently place your Enterprise model on the bottom mount, using your hands to support the lateral motion of the model to prevent it from falling. Place the model up against your wall until it stops. While a second person holds the model steady, grab the top mount sections, insert the arm into the wall plate, and then place the arm onto the top section of the saucer. The wall plate section should be nice and flush on the wall. Place pressure on the wall plate so it doesn't move, and remove the arm from the assembly, all the while holding the wall mounted plate firm so it doesn't move. Have the second person remove the model. This frees up space so you can screw in the wall plate. Then you can put the model back on the bottom mount, and you can put the top mount arm back in place. If you did it right, the arm should fit all the way into the wall plate, and the end of the arm should be grabbed onto the saucer section, preventing it from moving away from the wall, as well as preventing it from moving left/right.

Materials

Highly recommended to use a stronger plastic for this. I used PETG HF, and it seems to be plenty strong to support the model.
