Description
Amp up your lighting game with the Star Trek Borg Tactical Cube Tea Light Lamp! Modeled after Starfleet's encounters with the Borg in the Star Trek Next Generation franchise television and movie series. It's simple yet elegent design fits any decor. Approximately 85mm (3.35") cubed. NO AMS is needed required. If you're printing on an A1 Mini, you'll need to print each panel separately so it fits the build plate.
** UPDATE 07/07/25 **
For modifications to turn this in to a levitating cube, please see Silver's remix here.
Printed using Sunlu PLA+. If your intended use is for outdoors (say on your patio table), I recommend printing in PETG or ABS and using a water proof tea light just in case you forget to store it away after enjoying a frosty beverage or two.
DO NOT USE an open flame candle or tea light in this lamp.
PRINTING:
The included profile was created using an AMS and will switch colours automatically. Nothing else is needed for a successful print using an AMS. You MAY get a Floating Regions error when slicing (I get these on occassion even after having fixed the errors), but this can be ignored. If you're intent is to use the Borg model as a display piece and you don't want a tea light, simply print an additional side panel to replace the bottom
If you're not using an AMS:
ASSEMBLY:
Put the Top (from Plate #2), black side down, in the middle and arrange the Sides (all pieces from Plate #1) against each edge of the Top as shown in the picture below.
Apply glue around all edges.
Assemble the box and apply pressure until the glue cures (time is dependent on the type of glue you used).
OPTIONAL (before putting the Bottom piece in place).
This model can bleed light around the seams if not glued tightly together. You can use the optional seam light blockers if you need to. Assemble 5 sides of the Cube and glue the seam light blockers in the corners where the seams are.
Apply glue around the edges of the Bottom and edges of the partly assembled cube and put the Bottom in place (green side goes to the inside of the cube).
Insert the tea light in to the twist lock base. I used a Flickering Cold White tea light. I found cold white gives the best visual effect for this model.
or
Insert twist lock into the cube and twist to lock it in to place.
Turn on the tea light at the bottom of the cube and enjoy!
** NOTE ** The twist lock base is designed to hold the Bambu Labs Flame Tea Light but they're generic enough that the dollar store or Amazon varieties MAY fit. I also included and alternate version of the tea lock twist lock base on Plate # 3 that doesn't use the feet position of the tea light as an anchor that should fit generic tea lights better.
