Description
Keep the side slots dust free and protect the connector from your kids, pets or accidental damage. Especially useful if you play on a TV or monitor most of the time.
The model includes 3 variations with different attachment mechanisms:
This model includes 4 variations, this is done through 4 plates. You should only ever print one of these. If you don't know how to choose, make sure to follow these instructions:
This solution requires at least 2, but preferably 4 magnets with a maximum diameter of 5mm and a maximum width of 4mm. Refer to the parts list for further information.
Choose the plate named “Magnetic” (Plate 3).
While printing, grab your magnets. Ideally you'd use 4 (2 per side), but in a pinch it can work with just 2 (1 per side). Insert the magnets into the slots on the sides of the console, they should stick to the magnets within the body. They're approximately an inch/2.5cm from the center of the slot in the areas I marked with blue:
If you're only going to use 2 magnets, make sure to attach them closer to the + and - symbols. Once the screws are in place, grab a sharpie and mark the visible side. Don't remove the magnets from the console, as they aren't interchangable! Wait for the printing to finish.
Once the printer finished, remove the two covers from the plate and place them on a flat surface in front of you with the wide end (the one that was on the plate) facing down and the flat side of the bottom facing to the left (check the image if the required orientation is unclear). and place the console within arms reach with its screen facing towards you and in the “right orientation” (so if you turn the console on, the image shouldn't be upside down). Remove one magnet and glue it in the right location based on the following chart (pay special attention to where the arrows point):
Make sure to place the magnet with the sharpie mark facing towards the bottom of the hole. Repeat these steps with the rest of the 3 magnets. At the end, no sharpie marks should be visible.
Wait for the glue to dry and try the covers out.
This solution required 8 M2 screws whose lengths must be at most 5mm (including the head).
Choose the plate named “Screws” (Plate 1) and Hit print. At the end you should see 4 M2 screw holes in the part. Simply drive a screw in them.
If you go this route, make sure your printer is calibrated. I recommend only printing one side (there's a dedicated plate for this option named “Friction fit, only one"). The protrusions have a slight chamfer on them to make sure they slide in easily and get gradually tighter, so the fit doesn't have to be perfect.
