Description
This is a LEGOs Brick that holds the portal base and characters for the game LEGOs Dimensions.
I’ve put a lot of time and effort into creating this design, and I truly hope it brings you some enjoyment. If you find it useful or interesting, any support—whether it’s a like, share, or boost—would mean a lot to me. But most importantly, I hope you have fun with this print!
Functionality:
-No actual hardware required: Not screws, nuts, or bolts are necessary for assembly.
-Locking Drawers: Drawers click into place, so they don't slide open when transporting entire assembly. (Requires minor sanding to get the right fit)
-Locking Lid: Lid clicks into place for convenience and to keep a seamless appearance. (May require minor sanding to get fit just right.)
-Cable Storage: Cable storage is in the back with a self-locking door that clicks right into place either during use or not.
-LEGOs Brick appearance: The design allows this piece to function as a shelf piece when not being used.
compatibility:
Works for Xbox One/360, Play station, and Wii versions of the game (Though I wouldn't recommend investing into the outdated Xbox 360 version)
How to unlock every character for “free”:
I say “Free”, because you have to buy NFC tags to do this, but they are a bargain when compared to the cost of the actual discontinued characters.
The drawers hold tags that can be filled with NFC chips which can be purchased for very cheap, then you can write each tag to be read as any character you'd like.
There is a Discord group that has greatly simplified the process of writing these tags. Here is a link to the Discord.
(If the Discord server link is not working, please let me know. But here is a direct link to the website you can use in the meantime)
While the website link is all you need, the discord is still where you'll be able to find step by step explainaitions in the HELP tab, and if you have questions they can be asked in the GENERAL tab.
Be sure you are respectful and follow the rules posted in the discord server.
Also, be sure the NFC tags you buy are “25mm Ntag213” tags, and they should work for the process. Ntag215 will not work.
There are 155 drawer slots on this print, capable of holding all playable 75 characters and 80 vehicles.
Huge thank you to Chteupnin on Discord for putting in so much work to make this easy for anyone to do!
Additional purchases:
NFC tags - (Any “213” style of 25mm NFC tags should work.)
Label Maker - (For NFC's) - Maybe don't even bother, my labels didn't stick that well. Might be better off printing and cutting the names out to glue on.
Coin Holders(Optional) - makes the tag assembly process a lot quicker, but not as easy to label from the side.
Metal Rods(Optional) - (Any spare wires lying around should also work)
These metal rods are optional. I recommend them if you want the piece that holds the lid open to simply flip up, but if you have some wire lying around, that should accomplish the same thing. Otherwise, print the plate with the “No metal rod” version and you can simply set the piece in a slot to prop the lid open.
Assembly:
I have attached assembly instructions.
Assembly may require minor super glue and sanding. A mallet would certainly help too. This was to prevent the need for anyone to buy actual hardware to make this.
If you don't feel like doing all the assembly and gluing of each nfc tag, you can just buy these Coin Holders that can hold the tag and a printed picture, but you won't be able to label the sides like you can with mine.
Notes:
While I'm extremely happy with how this project has turned out, I must admit the most inconvenient parts.
-Assembling and labeling all 155 NFC Tag Capsules absolutely takes a long time. But, you of course can choose to only make the ones you really care about.
-The lid, which might be the coolest part of this build, keeps struggling to print smooth on the top surface. Unfortunately it's kind of important that this specific part looks good, so I apologize for not be able to correct his myself. The best I can do is explain how I managed to sand and finish the part… I explain this at the very bottom just below the credit section.
Credit:
While this is an original print I made, the actual capsules were originally gotten from a Maker's World user who goes by @Cybnon. His original NFC tag holder
I remixed his design by adding a flat side to the disk shape so that I could label them, then scaled them down to fit in the drawers of this build.
-Discord user Jeneric_usrnm is the one to thank for the character print outs that are attached, along with the color key.
-Again, Discord user: Chteupnin is the one to thank for all the work put into the discord server that allows anyone to easily make these free characters. Thank you Chteupnin
How I got the top smooth:
-protected the LEGOs studs with tape because those printed fine
-sanded with 80 grit, then 220 grit, then 400 grit, then wet sanded with 1500 grit.
-wiped everything off
-Covered the sanded surface with petroleum jelly to restore the color of the print
-let the petroleum jelly sit for at least 24 hours, then wiped it all off
-coated this surface with a clear coat of Mod Podge or something similar (Just to make the petroleum jelly's solor restoration more permanent). Matte Mod Podge Spray would probably work best.
