This is a sphere shaped CyberBrick robot inspired by the fixed-axle mechanism used in some BB-8 builds. Driving it is quite unique and a lot of fun, especially after some practice! Unfortunately, I couldn't get the head to stay on even with strong magnets and significant counter weight while still maintaining reasonable driving experience, so the head is for display only. I hope this inspires more droid inspired CyberBrick builds. :)
The diameter is 126mm (1:4 scale of real BB units).
Tips for driving:
Start really slow. Slamming full forward will only make the internal mechanism spin around in place. The bot can go really fast, but you need to start softly.
The turning is based on shifting the battery weight from side to side. The servo is really slow so you need to give it some time.
The faster the bot is going, the slower the turning. The bot can turn in really small space, but it needs to be inching forward.
When decelerating from high speed, ease of the throttle gradually. If you need to turn, start it well beforehand.
There are some cool tricks I've discovered but can't quite phrase, such as quick turning in place by flicking the throttle quickly while turning. You'll learn the ins and outs of the bot after a bit of driving!
Boost MeThis was a passion project for myself and for my kids, but I hope it finds love here as well. Please consider leaving a Boost if you think the model deserves it.
