"It's a Trap!"

I couldn't resist the opportunity using the phrase 😊

When visiting my brother, the flies are always annoying. This year I brought my A1 and tried out several design until I got a working one.

My father wanted to test it with sweet lure liquid for wasps, and it worked right away (see GIF)

Assembly/advise

The conical funnel part fits into the thicker mounting ring. The structural hanger (the part with four wings) fits into ring with a snap fit. It should pop in with just the right amount of force. (it can be removed, but it is difficult, so make sure the funnel is in place).

I used twine in the slot for hanging the trap.

I used a 2 L plastic bag (freezer type, little thicker, more robust). I wanted to use removable bags so the rest of the trap can be reused when full.

I tried some different mixtures for the liquid. (one was bad cucumber, old cheese, some vinegar, sugar and water)

But that could do some further experimenting, so please share what works best for you.

The locking ring has a small flange (to hinder it from sliding of the mounting ring), which should be on top.

Try to adjust the bag so it is hangs even.

And the locking ring has a clip that secures it.

I used some twine to hang the trap outside, to catch flies in my brothers garden.

Design process

After some redesigns, this version

  • Attracts the flies or wasps well (with the right liquid inside)
  • Held the bag securely.
  • Printed well without fusing parts together
  • Creates an larger opening under the funnel, so the flies cannot fly out again

I hope you get good use for my trap as well
