Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage this may cause to your printer. While I have done extensive testing to make sure it's safe, I can't predict every environment and exceeding the recommended weight limit may cause damage to your printer. Make sure you follow all the recommendations if you print this. And messing around with the slicer setting may also cause problems.

Introducing my most functional model yet … the A1 Shelf! When the AMS Lite Top Mount came out, I was a little skeptical about its stability. So I decided that I would only use the top bar for the external spool holder. But one day, I thought, “Why not utilize that space?” And since my desk is always a mess, I thought something like drawers up there would be the perfect solution to help declutter my desk. But after a couple prototypes and prints of the drawers, I realized that probably wasn't going to work for stability reasons. So I went back to the drawing board and sketched up a few different ideas. And then one night, I found the perfect one. A shelf! It isn't very top heavy, so there isn't a risk of it falling over. And since it doesn't have any moving parts, I wouldn't have to worry about things falling out of drawers or other compartments. Also, a shelf still has a lot of space to display/store things. So I started designing, and 14 versions and a lot of test prints later, I have the finished product!

I wanted to make this big, but not crazy big. So I settled on 225x105 mm for the shelf space. That isn't the exact amount due to the lip I added to keep things from falling off. But you're only losing a couple millimeters of space. The way it attaches to the top of your A1 is pretty simple. It's just like the external spool holder, except it doesn't have a hinged clip. It just goes all around the bar instead. And it is quite stable. There are two mounting brackets on the bottom and you just pop it onto the bar. The tolerances are tight so it will take some force. And if you put it on wrong, you can break the little tabs at the end. But I have found a technique to get it on and off perfectly, which is shown in the assembly instructions.

This design uses a little under 93 grams of filament to make and takes only about 2 hours and 45 minutes to print. It is printed vertical to avoid a bunch of supports. And I used gyroid infill so it would be extra strong, so you shouldn't have any problems with it breaking. I tested up to 8 pounds on the back and it didn't break. Going over that is uncharted territory, and I would not recommend it, but you can try at your own risk. Also, I wouldn't recommend putting very tall objects on it, just because they might fall off. Smaller objects don't fall off even on ludicrous mode with my extremely wobbly table due to the added lip. But if you want to be extra safe, you could adhere them to the shelf. I would recommend using the double-sided adhesive that I have linked below. I also tested to make sure the toolhead wouldn't ram into it, and it has a good amount of clearance. You can fit a variety of things on the shelf. I wanted to have some functionality while still displaying some niche things. So I added a smaller chest of drawers to the top and also added some niche things like a little plant and a Benchy. But, the ones I have in the pictures are just a small fraction of options. Let your imagination run wild!

As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, please let me know!

Enjoy,

P.S. If this model gets to 200 prints, I will make a version for the A1 Mini.
