Hooded crow call

Classic crow call, tested on hooded crows but most likely can be used for ravens, jackdaws, mag pies e.t.c. Please read all instructions on how to use it, it requires some training and technics to use correctly. Just straight blowing into it will not meet expectations (it will sound mostly like a duck).

As with all calls, the result will also vary with different plastic and printers. Especially the reed might need to be tested with different thicknesses, plastics, print beds and so on. It might be better to cut it from some other plastic like the food container example below. Then use the printed reed as a template. But test the printed first.

Printing

Use PLA or another stiff material for barrel and tone board (avoid CF/GF material on the tone board since you are going to use your mouth and breath in around it, you do not want small CF particles in your lungs). All parts are designed for 3d-printing and no supports needed. No brim is needed as well (especially if you are using glue). I suggest using 0.4 mm or finer nozzle but no need to go below 0.2 layer height.

For the reed I suggest start trying PLA but you might try other plastics as well for different results. I provide a print profile with different sound boards and reeds to try. (The one that comes with the default print profile is the one I'm using, printed on a smooth print surface)

For easiness I provide a complete basic print profiles with one color with all needed parts and a "default reed" . I also provide a print profile with just the barrel in two colors (painted in slicer so feel free to do your own) and a print profile with experimental reeds in different thicknesses (print in as low of layer height as you can).

Assembling

Place the reed on the lower tone board and place the upper tone board over the reed. Then screw the complete “tone board package” into the exhaust. No glue needed!

Usage

This is the fun but little hard part. As with all crow calls of this type you need to use it correctly. Place the tone board into your mouth so your teeth get behind the notch. With a deep breath blow into the call with a deep R sound from your chest. With training you can vary the sound quite a bit and also use your hand in different configuration in front of the barrel to imitate different sounds.

There exist many training videos on youtube on how to use this type of crow call.

I give an good  example here:
