Description
Make your space your own with a shelving system built around a powerful idea. Customizable dowel-based storage that adapts to any area.
This system uses the same dovetail + pin mounting platform as the other FractMod Dowel projects making it expandable, adaptable, and interchangeable. If you're interested in the spice storage or paper towel holder you can find them here!

🧩 Model Profiles Included
Each shelf support is designed for a certain depth, achieved by using multiple dowel rods. At this time all mounts use ¾" dowel rods and the FractMod dovetail for attachment with 3 × #8 screws or drywall anchors.
Each print profile includes two dovetails, two pins, and two mounts. Depending on your length of shelf you may need to print multiples of the plate.
3 Rod- Results in a shelf depth of 3.5"
4 Rod- Results in a shelf depth of 4.75"
5 Rod- Results in a shelf depth of 6"
Each mount slides onto the dovetail and locks in place with a pin quick, secure, and replaceable anytime.
The dowels can then be slide through each mount and the dowel clips can be added to secure the rod.
Thanks to my local home depot, I had a few dowels which were twisted and bowed. I found it easier to install 3 of the 5 rods before sliding the entire shelf on to the dovetails. If you are working in a tight space, or have dowels which are not straight I would recommend this.
⚙️ Mounting System
Simple, sturdy, and reconfigurable. Need a different size? Simply print the next size, remove the pin and slide the old mount off the wall.
From my own testing I have found that spacing the mounts 12" apart is a good baseline. In my case I used a 48" dowel length with 4 mounts to support.

🧰 Printing Recommendations
I have used PLA for this as I do not expect to add much weight to the shelves. If you have heavier items PETG, ABS, or PLA+ may be good options. All print profiles have been optimized to ensure you get a strong clean print with easy support removal. As with all prints, it is best to ensure you have dry filament and a clean build plate before beginning.
***Disclaimer***
This dowel shelf is designed for FDM 3D printing, with orientation and design choices made to reduce stress and improve strength. That said, FDM prints have inherent limits, and actual load capacity may vary based on material, printer, and settings. We encourage you to test your prints carefully and share your results with the community to help everyone build safer, stronger shelves.
