***Edit 09/05/2024*** - Slight reduction to overall tolerances to make for size to allow for snug alignment of the front/back plates, as well as small change to overall shape to allow storage in Mitutoyo Caliper box (see second image). Thanks in particular to @Spoonier for their comment about this!

 

This is an adaptor that can be quickly attached to any standard set of 16mm wide Digital Calipers (that's most of them!).

 

It provides a lockable depth base, that dramatically increases the span of the caliper bottom and makes measuring (using the caliper depth sword) much easier. Effectively allowing you to obtain measurements for holes & features that were previously very difficult or even impossible.

 

All items print with zero support. No need for metal fasteners as the knurled thumb screws are all printed too and are more than up to the job.

 

Assembly: The adaptor plates index together & are secured to the calipers with use of the two longer knurled bolts (from the back) and then the shorter knurled locking bolt can be inserted from the front and tightened down onto the face of the caliper. See exploded assembly BOM.

 

Set zero & use: Simply slide down flush with the end calipers, fully tighten the locking bolt. This is best done on a flat surface like a table top. Now you can slide the caliper as per norm…. but with improved 75mm wide base to measure away from.

 

I have tested all at 0.16 layer height and 0.2mm also and both work well. Uploaded print profile at the higher resolution along with change of colour for the thumbscrews as it just looks better that way :) Enjoy printing and I hope this increases measuring bliss for you too!

***Minor Edit 28/02/2024*** - Not required for most, but I have updated ‘Knurled Screw (Lock)’ to be 5mm long (previously 4mm) as some have reported that cheaper calipers can be a little thinner and so need the extra length. If you have the older version and struggling to get things reasonably tight, then perhaps just try reprinting this one item which I am now making the standard going forward.
