Modifying the 3ft Home Depot light bulbs have been the craze on the internet lately and unfortunately they're hard to get a hold of. Browsing Maker World I came across this model from dw2364 (https://makerworld.com/en/models/890651-christmas-light-bulb-large-tea-light-compatible#profileId-847092) and my brain started working to see how I could use these and some left over permanent govee lights to mimic a miniature 3ft Home Depot bulb. I'll walk you through how I did it.
Step 1: Download the model above from dw2364
Step 2: Scale the base to 149% and the bulb to 151%. This allows for the bulb to fit snug in the base. Since these will be outside I didn't want the wind to blow the bulbs off the base.
Step 3: (Optional) The bulb is hollow which is fine but after some testing I found better light distribution by capping off the bottom of the bulb. This can easily be done in most slicers by right clicking on the bulb, selecting “add part”, selecting “cylinder” and scaling is to match the bottom of the bulb. Should be ~ 54.463mm x 54.463mm x 2mm tall. Make sure you align the bulb and the new cylinder, select both components, right click and select “merge”
Step 4: Download my light bracket. This bracket serves 3 purposes. 1 - Provides a method in which an 8" tent stake can be inserted through to hold down the lights in your yard. 2 - provides a mount that will hold the original Govee permanent outdoor lights. 3 - Moves the light higher inside the base so that it illuminates the bulb and not the base.
Step 5: Purchase your tent stakes from amazon. These are the ones that I used. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BL44HPHQ
Step 6: Print your components. You will need 1 bulb, 1 base and 1 bracket per light. There are 12 lights per strand. I used white and green PETG for the base and the bulb. I also used PETG for the bracket.
Step 6: Assemble. This was a little time consuming mainly because our soil is very rocky.
Insert light through bottom of base leaving some slack.
Insert bracket into base (there's a lip on the inside of the base for the bracket to sit on). Make sure cable is on both sides of the bracket.
Once secure, you can press the light into the mount on the bracket
Continue until all lights are complete.
