C9 Bulb Modification Guide (Govee Spotlight Conversion)
This modification permanently alters the Home Depot C9 yard decoration and makes the original design unusable. Proceed at your own risk.
I wanted to convert the battery‑powered Home Depot C9 bulbs to work with my existing powered Govee lighting system. After watching a few overly complicated videos, I decided to streamline the process and create a simpler build.
• 3' Home Depot C9 Bulb (white top)
• 3D‑printed bracket
• 3D‑printed wire/plug bolt and nut
• Govee Gen2 Flood Light (6‑pack; also works with 2‑ or 4‑packs)
• 3/4" drill bit (for adding a cord pass‑through hole)
• One long zip tie (approx. 15")
1. Print the Bracket
Print the provided design (I used PETG).
• The print plate is set up for six sets.
• I used manual supports: Tree Slim, build plate only.
• Support top Z height: 0.267" — supports remove easily at this setting.
1. Unscrew and remove the top of the bulb; set it aside.
2. Inside the base, you’ll see a pressure‑fit bracket holding the original LED assembly.
3. Pull one side of the bracket outward until it releases (it may flex slightly).
4. Remove the other side and drop the LED assembly into the base.
Using a 3/4" drill bit, drill a hole about 1–2 inches above the existing power button (or wherever you prefer).
This will be the exit point for the Govee spotlight power cord.
1. Feed the Govee spotlight power cord into the base and out through the hole you drilled.
2. You may need to wiggle the cord to get the connector through; enlarge the hole slightly if needed.
3. Ensure the Govee screw‑on cap ends up outside the base.
4. The cord length allows about 2" of slack outside the bulb, leaving plenty of room for assembly.
1. Thread a zip tie through the two outer holes of the Govee spotlight bracket (leave the center hole empty).
2. Position the zip tie so the locking end will be accessible from inside the base later.
1. Insert the printed bracket through the Govee spotlight bracket.
2. Fit one end of the printed bracket into the original LED mounting slot inside the C9 base.
3. Maneuver the opposite end into the second mounting slot.
• The printed bracket installs in a “U” orientation, opposite of the original LED bracket.
• The bracket is keyed for the Govee power cable — ensure the keyed opening aligns with the hole you drilled so all slack stays on one side.
1. Position the Govee spotlight on top of the printed bracket.
2. Guide the power cord through the keyed opening so the connector seats properly.
3. Reach underneath and pull the zip tie upward so you can secure the spotlight to the printed bracket.
4. Tighten the zip tie.
• The combination of the keyed cable slot and the zip tie creates a stable mount that prevents the spotlight from falling into the base.
Connect your modified C9 bulb to your Govee power system and enjoy the upgraded lighting.
