Description
Want to be able to take cleaner photos for Makerworld or product pages, but don't want to use half a roll of filament and many hours of printing? This simple and lightweight model allows you to create a small photo box using a few sheets of A4 paper.
There are a few great models on Makerworld already which give you a full-printbed sized box, but these have a few disadvantages in my opinion - they cost a lot of filament, take a long time to print, and require matte white filament to work well, which not everyone has laying around.
With a print time of 1.5hrs and only ~55g of filament, this is one of the quickest and easiest ways to create a background for photography. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't going to give you studio quality photos, but it's good enough for most basic things, especially when combined with editing which is much easier when starting with a mostly clear background.
Print the 4 posts, and get 4 or 5 sheets of clean A4 paper.
Take 2 sheets of A4 paper and push the short edge through the gap in one of the posts, on the opposite side to the stand. Make sure to keep the bottom of the paper at the very bottom of the post so there isn't a gap. Push the paper through around 5mm out the back of the post, and make a fold along the full length of the back of the post to hold the paper in place.
Open out the two pieces of paper, and put a fold in one of them along the front of the post, to give a clean corner.
This will be the back left corner of our box.
Now take a 3rd sheet of A4, and line it up so that one of the short edges aligns with the free short edge of one of the two sheets already inserted into the first post. Take those aligned short edges and slot them through a second post, then fold them in exactly the same way as the first post.
This now forms the back and side walls of the box.
Now take another post and slide it on to the open short edge of the sheet of paper on the right, again folding it to keep it in place.
Now stand the 3 posts up, and add the final post to the final loose short edge of A4.
Finally, take the last sheet or two of A4 and put them underneath the posts, to form the floor of the box.
Adjust the alignment of the walls as needed for your photos.
A3 version will be coming soon if this model gets any interest!
