Description
Remixed user_382523920's filament scale with RFID to be left or rightside mountable, and adapted to the SpoolEase components.
3/20/2026 Per Finch13x feedback,
Created new RFID cover with
Added .3mf files as print profiles, you will still need to print the “Clear and Red” buttons and the front cover from stl/cad download. The Front Cover will show conflict errors on layer 5, but it does print OK.
Print either left or rightside; base and scaleplate. (Originally planned to mount on the side of the printer, but discovered that movement wakes the SpoolEase console. So mount somewhere solid)
Cover Plate has “SpoolEase” as objects, print face down, split STL into objects, then change each letter S, p, o, o, l, E, a, s, e to a different color filament. See added print profiles.
RFID Cover, same as above, print face down, RFID icon as objects. See added print profiles.
Be careful when you tighten the ESP32 carrier to the Faceplate that the red button does not get jammed on (Not Clickable), if needed loosen one or more of the mounting screws so the red button does not bind.
Follow the SpoolEase Scale build instructions here; https://docs.spoolease.io/docs/build-setup/scale-build
NOTES; from Yan-Shay the author of SpoolEase.
DO NOT PLACE THE RFID TAG READABLE WHILE WEIGHING A SPOOL. Read the tag, then place the spool with the tag facing away from the reader while you weigh the spool. Having the tag readable while weighing the spool may cause the tag to be read multiple of times.
Important notes March 11, 2026 ;
The plate uploaded by VID-PRO has the Lefthand base with the Righthand Scaleplate which is incorrect. EDIT as of 3/14/2026 VID-PRO’s print profile has been removed.
Added 4 more pictures, they show the scaleplate spacer, and how I installed the RFID reader. I do not believe there is space for the RFID reader to use 90 degree pin header and dupont connectors under the RFID reader cover
Download the files as "STL/CAD Files",
For leftside mount print; Leftside_Mount_Base_Adapted_for_522_532_NFC_Readers_R6.stl, and Left_filament-sacale_v30-scaleplate.stl
For the Rightside mount print; Right_filament-sacale_v30-scaleplate.3mf, and Rightside_Mount_Base_Adapted_for_522_532_NFC_Readers_R4.stl.
All the other parts can be used for left or rightside mount.
3/14/2026 Additional Notes
Once the scale is completely assembled, you will not have access to the ESP32 board usb ports. So program the board before closing up the case. All future software updates can be done by WiFi. The power connector on the rear of the case should provide 5v and gnd directly to the ESP32 board, see the attached pictures where I have a label attached to the ESP board carrier showing position of 5v and gnd connections.
