🍌 Banananife V2 – OTF Blade + Comb Upgrade

Before you deploy it,
you peel it.

A simple gesture.
A familiar motion.

Flip the peel —
and something engineered happens inside.

It feels exactly like peeling a real banana.

Except this one doesn’t get sticky.

🔄 Update – Leaf Spring Tolerance Fix

Due to different filament types and shrinkage, the leaf spring may vary slightly in size, which can cause issues like:
• Hard to open/close
• Blade/comb not catching properly

To improve compatibility, I’ve added a new print profile with 2 tolerance-adjusted leaf spring variants.

🛠 If your mechanism feels tight or doesn’t work smoothly:
→ Print the smaller leaf spring from the new profile
→ Swap it with the original one

No need to reprint the full model 👍

This should help you fine-tune the fit based on your filament and printer settings 😄

🔥 What’s New in V2

This is not a small revision.

It’s a structural redesign.

• Cleaner internal mechanism
• Linked peel cap system
• Integrated guide channel
• Comb module support
• Rubber band reset system
• Fully PLA printable

Less stress.
More control.
More reliability.

✅ Peel Cap = Functional Mechanism

In V1, the peel cap was mostly decorative.

Now it’s mechanically integrated.

Opening the peel activates the blade.
Closing the peel retracts it.

The gesture matches the object.

Banana logic.
Engineered response.

⚠️ Operate Gently

If the peel cap is flipped aggressively,
the internal gear may shift position.

This is a mechanical linkage system — not a snap toy.

Operate smoothly for best durability.

It’s designed for smooth mechanical interaction.
It may not survive full-power stress testing by a 3-year-old.

So… be gentle 🍌

🎞 Motion Preview

Continuous open / close loop below

Real mechanical motion.
No cuts. No tricks.

🔬 100 Cycle Stress Test

Before release, I ran:

100 consecutive open-close cycles. Non-stop.

Result:

✔ No failure
✔ No misfire
✔ Stable reset

Built for repeated fidget use.

🛠 About Lubrication

For best performance, light lubrication on the sliding rails is recommended.

During testing, I observed that prints from higher-precision setups (e.g. P1S) can operate smoothly even without lubrication.

However, applying a small drop makes the mechanism more forgiving and improves long-term consistency — especially if you notice any friction during reset.

All lubrication points are located in internal, non-contact areas.

Your fingers will not directly touch lubricated parts.

A small drop is enough.

Mechanical systems like to move.
Friction is not their friend.

🛢 Lubrication for Guide Channel

The guide channel is recessed inside the blade body.

After applying lubricant:

Wipe off excess from the edges.

Because the rail sits inside the channel,
your fingers won’t get oily during use.

Smooth motion. Clean handling.

🪮 Comb Version Added

Many asked for a comb version.

In V1, the rail design made it impossible.

In V2, the blade structure has been redesigned.

It now features an Integrated Guide Channel.

This recessed channel serves dual purposes:

• Structural reinforcement
• Sliding guidance for the comb module

Yes. One structure. Two functions.

A separate comb print profile is included.

⚙️ Elastic Upgrade – Rubber Band Reset

Printed PETG springs were removed.

Now using:

1.4×20mm rubber band
(Bambu Beginner Kit compatible)

Because reset force is handled by elastic:

All structural parts can be printed entirely in PLA.

No PETG required.
No ABS required.
No material mixing needed.

Just PLA + rubber band.

For proper tension:

✔ Double wrap around the hook
✔ Ensure elastic strength is sufficient

Sometimes simple solutions win.

🧩 Assembly Notes

• Reduced part count
• Peel cap tolerance slightly increased
• Apply glue if you prefer firmer fit
• Lubricate sliding rails
• Operate smoothly

This is a mechanical fidget system.

It rewards control.
It does not reward chaos.

🖨 Print Profile Notes

✔ .3mf fully tested before release
✔ Supports marked where required
✔ 2 wall lines
✔ Brims added for tall parts
✔ Stable orientations applied

Print with confidence.

If something feels rough —
it’s usually friction.

And friction can be negotiated.

🍌 Why V2 Matters

Peel → Deploy
Decorative cap → Functional linkage
Printed spring stress → Elastic reset
No comb → Modular comb support
Mixed materials → Full PLA compatibility

Cleaner geometry.
More reliable motion.
Lower printing barrier.

It’s still a banana.

Just… more engineered.

Boost MeIf you like mechanical nonsense
that somehow works —
Boost appreciated.
It keeps the banana engineering department running 🍌
