Description

Here's a replacement top cover for the Gaggia Classic espresso machine.

It has cut-outs on top for a 58mm tamp and a generic WDT tool holder.

Additionally, it uses a 25mm silicone tube to replace the traditional funnel. This is useful as it allows for more freedom to mount SSRs internally for a DIY PID conversion. The water filling section is sloped just enough so that water does not pool in the fill area.

This allowed a PID conversion for sub-£40 all in, with minimal effort for SSR placement.

This MakerWorld listing solely covers the top cover assembly, please look elsewhere for PID conversion guides.

I recommend ASA-CF, ASA, ABS, or a similar filament that can wistand reasonable temperatures. My ASA-CF version has been working fine for over 12 months of heavy daily use.

Parts List

  1. 25mm ID Silicone Hose (e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D6Z536RM)
  2. 2x Jubilee clips (optional for safety, often included above)

Assembly

  1. Print all the parts
  2. Fit the handle onto the lid, glue optional
  3. Put the silicone hose onto the main cover, and insert the spout into the other end (optionally use jubilee clips)
  4. Screw the gaggia's metalic boiler cover onto the newly printed main cover
  5. Feed the new spout through your wiring, into the cut-out above the water res
  6. Place your PID wiring into the cut-out, and insert the filler piece to tidy it up
  7. Ensuring the front tabs are lined up, secure the main cover to the Gaggia's body with the remaining two screws.
  8. Enjoy your espresso!
