Hand Launched Flying Propeller Toy

This toy is based on the Aero Props™ flying propeller toys. I designed it to be easy to print, using an octagonal shaped handle that allows it to be relatively circular while still being printable without support. It can fly around 20-30 feet horizontally or 15-20 feet vertically if you spin it fast! It is designed to be printed with PLA, but should work with PETG or ABS/ASA too!

 

*Important*

The propeller requires a brim. Also, please print the propeller slowly or use one of the provided print profiles. Due to the thin blades, speeds greater than ~60mm/s caused the propeller to warp and bend during my test prints, resulting in imperfections on the surface. I also found it helpful to print the handle with a brim, the ends tended to warp up on my cool plate. It may be fine without a brim on the textured PEI plate, but proceed at your own risk!

 

Assembly is simple, the handle should fit snugly into the octagonal hole on the bottom of the propeller. Glue is not required, but may be helpful if yours fits loosely. The default tolerance is 0.1mm, if anybody needs a larger tolerance, you can scale the handle down a few percent, or feel free to comment, and I will gladly make a model with your specified dimensions!
