This volleyball is part of a growing collection of sports balls born from a 3D design challenge to create complex, multi-color spheres with perfectly smooth surfaces.
The design uses a modular system of interlocking panels to achieve a clean, seamless sphere without supports, waste, or AMS. Multiple color patterns can be created using the same parts, making it both efficient and highly customizable.
Design Features
Modular panel system for clean spherical geometry
No supports, no waste, no glue required
No AMS-compatible profiles for multi-color printing
Multiple pattern variations using the same parts
Press-fit, puzzle-like assembly
Optional keychain panel
Scaled to match the rest of the collection (1:5)
Print in less than an hour
Assembly Instructions
Slide 2 side panels into 1 mid panel to create one side of the ball.
Repeat step 1 until you have 6 completed sides.
Connect the sides together, keeping each new side perpendicular to the previous one. Do not fully press the joints into place until all sides are assembled.
Once all sides are in place, press firmly to lock everything together.
For a more secure assembly, remove one side and add a small dab of glue inside, then reassemble.
Optional: A keychain panel can be used to attach a ring.
Printing Notes
Profiles tested on Bambu Cool Plate (SuperTack) with Bambu Matte filament
Ensure good bed adhesion for accurate panel geometry
AMS profiles: each plate prints a complete ball depending on the selected pattern
Non-AMS users: make sure to print a total of 6 mid panels and 12 side panels to assemble one full ball
