The design features precise, self-supporting holes for effortless refilling and controlled dispensing. This set includes files for both the white (salt) and black (pepper) shakers.
Print Recommendations:
To achieve the sleek, refined look seen in our presentation:
- Material: For a true functional use, we recommend using a quality PETG filament (like Bambu Lab's PETG) due to its superior durability and better temperature resistance compared to PLA. PLA can be used for decorative prototypes.
- Layer Height: 0.2 mm for a smooth finish that minimizes layer lines and ensures precise thread fitting.
- Walls/Infill: Print with 3-4 perimeter walls and a minimum of 15% infill (gyroid recommended) for structural integrity.
- Supports: Given the shape supports are required for the top. They can be challenging to remove but with some patience they come off and leave a great finish.

The Challenges with FDM Prints:
- Layer Gaps: FDM (filament-based) 3D prints create microscopic layer gaps. These gaps can harbor food particles, moisture, and bacteria, making the interior very difficult to sanitize completely.
- No Hot Liquids: These shakers are strictly for dry, room-temperature foods (like dry sea salt and whole or ground pepper). Never use with hot liquids or wash in a dishwasher.
- Material Safety: Standard PLA and many PETG filaments, unless specified as food-safe certified, may contain additives and pigments that are not safe for prolonged food contact.
How to Make Your Shakers Safe for Use: To safely use these shakers for seasoning your food:
- Material Selection: Use a filament clearly certified as "Food Grade" by the manufacturer.
- Internal Sealing (Highly Recommended): The most effective method to ensure safety is to seal the entire interior and the threads with a certified food-grade, FDA-compliant epoxy resin. This fills the layer gaps and creates a non-porous surface.
- Proper Cleaning: Clean with warm, mild soapy water and a soft bottle brush. Ensure they are completely dry before refilling.
