Meet The Moody Pebbles! 🪨💙

🚨 UPDATE: The collection is growing! Due to popular demand, The Moody Pebbles - Series 2 is OUT NOW!. Click here to collect Petrified Pete, Sandstone Steve, and Crystal! 🚨

I designed this 11-piece set of collectable rocks specifically for the Pieksekisten ("Prick Box") initiative hosted by @JamesDaRock (hence the theme here because he is truly a rock of humanity), supporting children at the pediatric oncology day clinic in Augsburg.

Kids going through intense medical treatments experience a massive, overwhelming spectrum of emotions. Sometimes they feel brave, but a lot of times they feel grumpy, shocked, exhausted, or just want to be silly. "The Moody Pebbles" are designed to be tactile, pocket-sized companions that validate those feelings. It turns the treasure chest into an interactive experience: Which rock matches my mood today? Are they feeling like a silly "Pumice Posy" after a good day, or do they need to squeeze "Magma Max" when things are tough? These little "Bravery Boulders" are meant to be kept in a pocket, under a pillow or on a hospital bed table to offer a smooth, comforting pal during treatments.

Meet the Crew!

Every pebble has a distinct personality. Here is the official roster for your batch prints:

  • Sedimentary Sid: The wonderfully grumpy, layered tired guy.
  • Quartz Carl: The highly stressed, yelling quartz crystal.
  • Magma Marty: The tough, dinosaur-looking lava rock.
  • Geode Gerald: The wide-open, toothy (but friendly!) crystal cave.
  • Hematite Harry: The bubbly, botryoidal cluster.
  • Obsidian Obie: The sharp, knapped volcanic glass.
  • Magma Max: The classic, sad cratered scoria.
  • Pumice Posy: The super silly, whistling bubbly rock.
  • Quirky Quartz: The goofy, winking crystal cluster.
  • Skippy: The wide, wavy-mouthed, smooth river stone.
  • Stalagmite Stacy: The drippy, derpy cave formation.

🎨 A Blank Canvas for Creativity!

While these look fantastic in vibrant filaments, try printing a batch in plain white PLA! A white Moody Pebble becomes the perfect blank canvas. It turns the figurines into a fun, low-mess craft activity where kids can use acrylic paints or paint pens to customize their own rock pal. It adds a whole new layer of interactive play for the kids at the clinic or families printing them at home.

Why These Are Perfect for Charity Printing:

  • Batch-Print Ready: I have included a print profile specifically set up to pack the build plate. You can hit "print," walk away, and come back to a whole handful of finished toys ready for the clinic.
  • Kid-Safe Durability: They are chunky, bottom-heavy, and have no thin, fragile protruding parts (like swords or skinny arms) that could snap off in a pocket or during play.
  • High Contrast Faces: The facial expressions are carved using deep negative space, meaning the emotions pop beautifully even in plain, single-color filament.
  • Support: Make sure tree support is enabled for the best outcome.

Printing Tips for Makers:

  • Use Bright Colors: While gray and brown look like real rocks, kids love vibrant colors! Cheerful PLAs (teal, yellow, lime green, purple, orange) make these characters come to life.
  • Layer Height: Standard 0.2mm layer height works great, but printing at 0.16mm makes the smooth curves and deep expressions look even cleaner.
  • Infill: 10-15% lightning or gyroid infill is plenty. They are small enough that they will feel solid and satisfying to hold.

Want to keep expanding your collection? > The Moody Pebbles universe is growing! I am releasing a new wave of pocket pals every single week. Make sure to download The Moody Pebbles - Series 2 Here and hit that Follow button on my profile so you don't miss Series 3!

Print a plate, spread some joy, and let's fill up those Pieksekisten boxes!
