Description

This is a quick-access attachment system for trekking poles, designed to mount directly onto your backpack's shoulder strap. It allows for rapid, secure storage of your poles without needing to remove your backpack. This design has been fully field-tested on multiday hiking trips and works reliably.

Inspiration: This design was inspired by the mounting system of the Fidlock Twist Tex Base Multi (link: https://www.fidlock.com/consumer/en/twist-tex-base-multi/09650-p00002-blk). It utilizes a similar concept of placing a base on the front of the strap and securing it with heavy-duty bands wrapped from behind.

Key Features:

  • Rapid Deployment: Instantly attach or detach your poles with a simple snap.
  • Secure Hold: The friction-fit clip holds the pole securely against the strap.
  • Ergonomic Position: Keeps poles within easy reach, right on your shoulder strap.
  • Zero Interference: Designed so the poles do not interfere with movement, arm swing, or normal backpack function, regardless of whether the poles are fully extended or collapsed for transport.
  • Multi-Size Compatibility: Included are print profiles for a wide range of pole diameters, from 15mm up to 20mm, provided in 1mm increments. Simply choose the profile that matches your pole diameter.

Installation & Requirements: This clip attaches directly to your backpack's shoulder strap. A heavy-duty, flat-style rubber band is required to complete the installation.

  • Required Rubber Band: We recommend using a heavy-duty, wide (flat) rubber band with a relaxed length of approximately 5cm (as shown in the reference image). Standard thin office rubber bands are not strong enough. Specialized heavy-duty bands provide the necessary tension and durability for outdoor use, wrapping around the strap to secure the clip.

Sizing Advice: For the best fit, accurately measure the diameter of your pole section where you intend to attach the clip. If you are using poles with lever locks, measure the main tube section. Using a caliper is recommended for accuracy.

Printing Recommendations:

  • Material: To handle the stress of snapping the poles in and out, PETG is strongly recommended over PLA for its flex and durability. If you will be in extreme sun or heat, ASA is another excellent option for its UV resistance.
  • Orientation: Print the clip in a vertical orientation (standing up). Supports are required for this method. This is critical for durability: if printed flat on its back, the snap-on arms would break under tension between layers. Printing vertically ensures the plastic is deposited in continuous strands along the length of the arms, providing the necessary strength.
  • Walls/Infill: 3-4 walls and 15-20% infill are suggested for optimal strength.
