PlayGrid Core Module (CC0)

Welcome to the foundation of PlayGrid.

This is the official PlayGrid Core Module, released under CC0 so makers and designers can freely build on top of the system with no restrictions on their own creations.

PlayGrid was always envisioned as more than a single game. It is a shared platform for designers to create entirely new experiences using one common physical foundation. By releasing the core grid openly, we hope to encourage a growing community of creators building original games, mechanics, and experiences on top of the system.

For a great play experience, we recommend buying 5x2mm round magnets from Maker's Supply. Each base grid takes 8 magnets and most game modes take at least an additional 8 magnets. This makes for incredibly easy swapping.  

What this release includes:

• The base PlayGrid grid/frame system, the universal foundation used across PlayGrid-compatible games.
• Freedom for creators to build and publish their own PlayGrid games under licenses of their choosing.
• 🎉STEP files are now available to make remixing this project or building new games easier than ever!

Important Licensing Note:

While the PlayGrid Core Module is CC0, individual PlayGrid games and expansions may carry different licenses depending on the designer.
Models released as part of the PlayGrid crowdfunding campaign or by collaborating designers are not automatically CC0 simply because they use this grid. This release is about giving the community a shared canvas while respecting the rights of creators building on top of it.

The PlayGrid Designer lets creators prototype and playtest digitally before ever printing a part, helping save significant time and filament during development. Experiment with tile layouts, refine mechanics, test strategies, and iterate on gameplay in seconds instead of reprinting physical prototypes. It is built to make designing for PlayGrid faster, cheaper, and far more creative.

STEP Files / Reference Files

Backers of the PlayGrid crowdfunding campaign will receive early access to detailed STEP/reference files via a separate model page as part of their supporter perks. These files will eventually be made available to everyone after the early access period.

At its heart, PlayGrid is a love-of-the-game project. We built this because we believe tabletop creators deserve a flexible, reusable platform that lowers the barrier to designing great physical games.
