Bring the grocery store experience home with this highly interactive, functional Toy Cash Register! Designed specifically for kids, this toy features mechanical keyboard switches (fully printable), oversized keycaps, a sliding drawer, and a customizable mechanical tumbler display. It’s the perfect blend of 3D printing engineering and creative playtime.
Whether your little one is running a pretend bakery, a grocery store, or a café, this cash register provides endless hours of tactile, educational fun.
🌟 Key Features
- Oversized Tactile Keyboard: The buttons are scaled up to 200% of a standard keyboard size, making them incredibly satisfying and easy for small hands to press. The mechanical keyboard switches are fully printable. I modified this model to fit this register. Print it in PETG!
- Customizable Keycaps: The model includes several pre-designed keycaps featuring everyday grocery items (apple, cucumber, cheese, bread, fish, and more). Want to expand your store? You can easily design and print your own custom keycaps!
- 6-Slot Mechanical Tumbler Display: No batteries required! The physical display features 6 modular slots. Spin the tumblers to change prices (using numbers) or show currently scanned items (using product icons). There are 2 versions here: one where the display wheels spin free and another one where they click each time they rotate. I experienced it is extra fun spinning them really fast!
- Built-in Storage Drawer: Features a front handle so kids can slide the drawer open and closed to store their play money and coins. Note: closing mechanism can be a bit hard to pull out - there will be an updated drawer without or with minimal closing force!
🛠️ Assembly & Hardware Requirements
This is an assembly-required project. It is designed to snap together cleanly for a robust finish.
Note: There is 2 ways to install the spring button and the keycaps. In one orientation the keycap goes on very easy but does not stay there so rotate the keycap 90°. The part with the 2 side taps on the spring button should line up horicontally.
🖨️ Recommended Print Settings
To ensure the mechanical elements (tumblers, buttons, and drawer) fit together perfectly, please use the following guidelines:
- Layer Height: 0.2mm (0.12mm recommended for the display tumblers).
- Nozzle: to really get every detail out of the symbols on the keycaps go there with a 0.2 nozzle (especially ketchup)
- Infill: 10% to 12% (Gyroid).
- Supports: Minimal supports are needed for the body display. everything else prints support free!
- Material: PLA works perfectly. Use PETG for the Spring Buttons so that they remain springy!
🎨 Customize Your Register!
The design is completely modular. Feel free to remix the keycap files to include local currency, unique foods, or custom logos. If you make one, please upload a photo of your color combination—I’d love to see your prints!
