Description
Having owned and used several IKEA pergolas over the years, I’ve noticed a common pattern. While they are surprisingly sturdy when new, prolonged exposure to wind, rain, snow, and changing temperatures can gradually introduce movement in a few key joints of the frame.
The aluminum structure itself holds up very well, but repeated stress from strong winds can slowly increase flex in certain areas. Rather than waiting for wear to become a problem, I designed this collection of reinforcement brackets to support the structure where it benefits the most.
These brackets are designed to blend naturally into the pergola without making it look industrial or overbuilt. Once installed, they become a discreet part of the frame while adding rigidity in several strategic locations.
Since I was already adding brackets to the pergola, I decided to give them a second purpose.
Each bracket includes one or more integrated hanging loops, making it incredibly easy to attach:
The HAMMARON doesn’t provide many convenient attachment points from the factory, so these built-in loops make decorating the pergola much easier without drilling holes or relying on zip ties.
These brackets can be printed in PLA, and they will certainly work. However, for the best long-term durability, I strongly recommend printing them in PETG.
PETG offers significantly better resistance to heat, UV exposure, moisture, and the constant expansion and contraction caused by changing weather conditions. Since these brackets are intended for permanent outdoor use, PETG is the ideal material if you want them to remain strong and stable season after season. Whether your pergola has already seen a few summers or you’re assembling a brand-new one, these brackets are a simple way to increase rigidity while adding practical attachment points for lighting and other accessories.
