HULA v1.0 Anti-Vibration Feet for 3D Printers

• I do my best to double-check and test the print profile I create. They are up to date with whatever changes I made to the designs. If you are using profiles made by others, please check if they are updated.

• Bearing washers have to be installed with the smooth side facing the bearings.

This April marks the 2nd year of HULA anti-vibration feet. From a novel concept to a printable mod now widely installed across 3D printers worldwide, HULA has come a long way. To celebrate, I designed a HULA fidget toy. Thank you to everyone who made it part of their setup. The 3MF is available on the 4th designer print profile, and it requires a mechanical keyboard switch (+).

In addition, regional vendors will be including a HULA fidget toy with every purchase above 100 USD (VoxelPLA) or 70 EUR (VTC3D). This giveaway runs from April to May, while stocks last.

3do.dk and fysetc are profiteering from my design. They have not approached me beforehand to sell HULA's hardware and/or printed parts. Kindof suck, but that's life. I have been saying no to HULA for A1, but you guys have been saying please. I give in. Here is HULA for A1. But… a big CAVEAT : 

1. The dampening results vary. It can work for some and not for others. 
2. Please do not use it with the AMS lite or a 3kg spool sitting on the gantry.
3. The table surface that the printer sits on should not be too smooth. 
4. There is a limit to how much HULA can dampen because the A1 print bed is heavy. 

I have created a separate file where all the beta versions of HULA-related stuff are there "HULA for beta.3mf". Currently, it has HULA for A1, HULA for Pavers and center core with PLA support. 

Installation Guide:

• Follow the installation guide for A1 mini. Use the A1 brackets instead of the A1 mini brackets. 
• Do not need to remove the rubber feet at the 4 corners. They are supposed to sit inside the brackets slot for extra dampening. 
• Add thin double-sided tape on the vertical walls for adhesion to the plastic frame. 
• If you require HULA hardware kit. Please order the hardware kit for the A1 mini from the vendors. The BOM and installation are the same.

INTRODUCTION

Most 3D printers rely on rubber feet designed to absorb vibrations from motors and moving parts. However, these rubber feet are not effective at dampening the forces caused by the rapid directional changes of the toolhead. To address this, I drew inspiration from seismic base isolators—the technology used to earthquake-proof buildings—and designed HULA.

What is HULA?

HULA is an Omnidirectional Self-Aligning Anti-Vibration Foot specifically designed to dampen movement vibrations generated by fast 3D printers. By decoupling the printer from the table, HULA effectively absorbs and reduces the horizontal XY forces produced by CoreXY and Cartesian printers. This prevents the printer from swaying or wobbling during operation, which in turn:

• Reduces stress on the printer frame,
• Minimize vibrations transferred to the table and nearby printers.

BOM for HULA v1.0

• F8-22M Thrust Bearings - 4 sets
• M3x8mm SHCS - 8pcs
• M3x8mm - 8pcs (A1mini, A1_beta option)
• PETG filament
• TPU 95A filament (or of similar hardness) 

There are 2 versions of F8-22M thrust bearings; 11 & 10 balls. I would advise getting the 11-ball version as it is more stable.

For this project, I used Voxelpetg+ HS (High Speed) and Bambu Lab 95A HF TPU. If you want to get the same filament I worked with, links below.

Comparison Test between Bambu Lab Anti-Vibration feet (left) vs HULA anti-Vibration feet (right) - In this video, you will see that Bambu Lab anti-v feet cause the printer to wobble/oscillate. Where the HULA decouples the printer from the table and dampens the movement on the horizontal plane greatly reducing the wobbling.
