Description

I created this desktop light holder to add light to my workspace. No support is needed in printing. The ball joint at the top of the model allows for some rotation and movement of the light attachment. Simply loosen the tightening nut, adjust the light to the position you want, and tighten the nut again. I used a pair of magnetic, rechargeable lights off amazon (link below). The lights themselves are magnetic and they come with a small metal strip that is glued into the light holding arm. The base has 4 countersunk screw holes do mount directly to a workbench. It also has two slots for magnets in the base if you have magnetic work surface. The magnet slots are designed for another amazon product (link below). Or you can rest it on the workbench. If you don't secure the base in some fashion it will tip over so you'll need to weigh the base down.

Assembly

Assembly is very simple and super glue is recommended but not required. The ball joint that holds the light arm and the light arm itself are printed separately then press fit or glued together. The attachment hole in the light arm is the same size as the ball joint so you can press fit them together (it's a fairly tight fit) but I recommend adding a drop of glue here. The most important part of assembly is to remember to place the tightening nut over the ball joint BEFORE you glue the ball joint and light arm together. The large opening of the nut faces down toward flat part of the ball joint and the actual “ball” should sit inside the threaded part of the tightening nut. If you plan to use glue my final suggestion is to assemble one side of the light holder WITHOUT glue to make sure you have it correctly. If you make a mistake you can take it apart and try again. Then you can do the final assembly and glue it all together.
