How to use
This generator uses OpenScad implementation in MakerWorld with the file upload capability.
To use the tool follow these simple steps:
- Select the “Customize” button
- Select your desired shape from the drop-down menu
- Input your desired length - or use the default
- Input your desired size (diameter) - or use the default
- Generate the model
- Download and print.
- Once printed use a knife to separate the spring CAREFULLY - I find a blunt table knife works best.
- Go springoing!
- Please attach a picture of your creation to the comments.
Notes:
- Read the description of each of the parameters for details on how to use them.
- For shapes that have "concave" sections some stringing may be evident on the printed mode. It is best to clean these off before separating the spring.
- If generating “random” shapes check that the shape is sensible before printing.
- For custom shapes select “Use SVG File” for the shape
- using the attach file button select your custom svg file
- svg file should contain a single closed path of the shape
- there are some sample SVG files here… SVG File Samples
- I used LucidCharts to create my shapes but Inkscape is another good choice
- You will likely get a warning from the slicer about overhanging cantilevers or similar - this is normal.
- The generator tries to create a wedge shape for the spring leaf gaps with the outside gap larger than the inside gap. This helps a lot in separating the spring after printing. Parameters for this wedge are in the advanced section.
- I have made the best springos using PLA but also PETG works well.
- This is an updated version of https://makerworld.com/en/models/615129#profileId-538493
- Please give me feedback on your springo generation!
