Description

I’m excited to present my latest project to you: a Porsche 12-cylinder engine from the legendary Porsche 917.

About the engine: This is a 12-cylinder, air-cooled boxer engine with a centrally located gear-drive for the camshafts. Unlike most engines, the power take-off is positioned centrally on the crankshaft.

About my model: The model was originally designed at a 1:1 scale but scaled down to 1:2 for printing. It primarily consists of 3D-printed parts that are mostly assembled by slotting them together. A few standard parts are also required; you’ll find these listed in the description and the assembly guide. Thanks to a magnetically detachable engine part, nearly all functions of the original engine are visible in the model, including the movable crankshaft, pistons, camshafts, valves and fan.

To assemble, I’ve included a detailed PDF instruction manual. If you have any questions or suggestions for improvement, please feel free to reach out in the comments or via direct message. I am also working on a stand and an upgrade kit with Makerworld parts to enable an electric-powered version of the engine.

I hope you enjoy the model!
Happy printing and assembling!

Special Thanks to:

  • Eva, for assisting with creating the instructions.
  • Lukas Hannert, for providing access to the photo box and printer.
  • Luis and Markus, for use of the printer.
  • Crax, for writing a program to numerically calculate the camshaft gear ratio.
