🔹 V2 UPDATE – NEW & IMPROVED (PLEASE READ)

V2 is a meaningful geometry and printability upgrade over the original release.

This update introduces fully modeled suspension components and brake rotors, now visible through the wheels, replacing the simple placeholder pegs used in V1. This adds realism and significantly improves the finished look—especially on painted or display builds.

In addition, V2 addresses a slicing issue present in the original model where the slicer struggled to consistently determine the boundary between body paint and adjacent features such as windows and wheel wells. This occasionally resulted in minor color bleed or ambiguous color separation in preview and print (see image below).

The V2 geometry cleans up these transitions, providing clearer, more reliable color boundaries and more predictable results across slicers and print profiles.

🎯 Purpose

The goal of this project was to create a high-quality, multi-color display model that prints reliably while preserving as much visual detail as possible.

While the original Sketchfab model was visually excellent, it was non-manifold and not suitable for 3D printing without significant rework.

🛠 Model Modifications

To prepare the model for printing, the following changes were made:

• Converted the entire model to manifold geometry
• Closed or reinforced features that were too thin to print reliably (e.g., hollow exhaust pipes)
• Increased mesh resolution and smoothing to improve surface quality
• Separated select components (boosters and taillights) so they can be printed flat on the bed for improved finish
• Updated internal geometry in V2 to improve color separation and slicing behavior
• Added detailed suspension and brake rotors (V2 only)

🖨 Print Recommendations

• Orientation:
  Print the main body at approximately 45°
  This provides the best balance between surface quality, print time, and support usage.

• Plates & Filaments:
  The entire model can be printed on a single plate, but I recommend splitting it into two plates if you want:

  • 4 colors plus
  • “Support for PLA/PETG” as a dedicated support interface material

  I only have one AMS system (4 filaments max), so printing the boosters and taillights on a second plate allows full use of all materials.

• Support Interface:
  Using Support for PLA/PETG allows the support interface Z-distance to be set to 0, which dramatically improves supported surface quality and makes removal much easier.

🔧 Assembly Notes

• Boosters & taillights:
  Designed as a tight snap-fit. No glue required.

• Wheels:
  I recommend:

  1. Gluing wheels to the wheel attachments
  2. Then gluing the assemblies into the body

  Standard super glue works well.

✅ Tips for Best Print Performance

While this is a long print, it is not a difficult print if you follow these recommendations:

• Ensure all filaments are fully dry
• Strongly consider using Support for PLA/PETG
  • Better surface quality
  • Significantly easier support removal
• Calibrate flow dynamics for each filament
• Bambu auto-calibration works for all filaments except Support for PLA/PETG
• Perform Manual Calibration for Support for PLA/PETG
  • My final K-factor was 0.09, which is notably different from the default
