Description

This is the third and final model i made to display the Broken Narsil Model by 3Demon. This model consists of a 1 ft by 2 ft Shield of Gondor split into 7 pieces. The most recent profile contains a thicc version that bumps up the depth to 16 mm for the body and 3 mm for the surface details.  This allows for thicker connectors and more surface area for gluing. I backed the 90 degree profile with 1/8 plywood to strengthen it up and it turned out fine.  But with the thicc version, no backing should be required. The is a negative void in the back to allow for hanging on a nail or hook.

UPDATE:

  • There is also a scaled-down version that prints on one plate located here.
  • I've added another profile for sinlge filament printing with a pause at layer 84 for a manual color swap.  This will result in a two color shield with seemingly a black base with white details.

The display consists of the shield, the hilt hook (glued/screw to the shield), blade risers (attached to the shield using screws and glued to the blade pieces), and the broken narsil model.

I didn't model any screw holes since the holes would change depending on which side of the sword you have facing outward. Once all the pieces are printed, follow these steps:

  1. glue shield together
  2. back the shield if needed
  3. get the sword pieces painted - along with any of the risers/hook if needed
  4. glue the risers to the sword pieces being cognizant you have all the sword pieces facing in the correct direction
  5. layout the sword pieces on the shield and mark where you want to place the risers
  6. drill pilot hole through shield (if using screws to attach them)
  7. screw/glue risers and hook to the shield (if not backed, use a washer to strengthen the connection. They don't have to be too tight.)

I imagine you can use the whole narsil model and the hook in the same way, though i have not verified it.
