Summary

Ever wish you had a stand that handles strong winds and don't want to lay your boat directly on the ground? Then you can try these adaptors that fit directly on the original DF65 stand.

I have designed them differently for prow and stern parts of the boat, which is which is easy to see since it's printed on them.

Remove the bottom parts of the stand and slide them on like in the images, put them on the same side as the lonely upper support rod.

For best protection add some adhesive rubber on top, don't forget to put some on the stand as well.

                Filament: Doesn't matter PLA Transparent

Notes:

PLA is probably not the best but it's what I can print without any problems so that's what I use!

Post-Printing

Important

Take a knife and trim inside the ends of the cylindrical hole, otherwise it will be very hard to fit the rod inside. You don't need to trim much.

How I Designed This

Preparing clay mould

Step 1. Making the adaptors

First I went with circular shapes and the idea was to have the same adaptor on both sides. It was not good enough so I decided to make the best possible fit by using model clay from my kids.

Here I have put a decent amount of clay on my first adaptors and pressed the hull against them really hard.

.

Finished mould

Step 2. Mould done

Remove the boat and you get this.

Trimmed adaptors with clay

Step 3. Getting the measurements

Next I cut of the excess clay and drew the outline on paper and cut them out.

Now I needed mm-paper to get the measurements, unfortunately I had none but my old printer could print templates and the one with best resolution was 3x3 mm squares so I used that and measured the positions for a couple of points on the surface,

Next I used polygon in OpenScad for the first time, it looked great the first try. I had to upscale all measurements with a factor 3 so the OpenScad files looks a bit weird.

First test, looks great!
