Description
This is a simple 3D printable model of a late 19th century naval monitor warship, based (very) loosely on the Arkansas-class monitors of the US Navy (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas-class_monitor ). Self-designated Defiant-class.
For me, it also served as an exercise in using FreeCAD to design snap-fit parts.
Notable features:
1. The turret can rotate AND elevate/lower its barrels!
2. The hull is relatively long (about 350mm total length), and printed in two parts and held together via a friction joint.
3. This is the first time I used B-splines in FreeCAD to make a nice curve for the ship's bow.
You only need the STL files, but I've also uploaded 3MF, STEP, and FreeCAD (RC1) files if anyone wants to modify or remix it, or whatever.
If you'd like to see the turrets on a more “traditional” battleship design, check out my Simple Large Battleship: https://www.printables.com/model/1028349-simple-large-battleship-snap-fit-turrets-and-hull
