Simple Large Battleship (Snap-fit Turrets and Hull)

This is a simple battleship (self-designated Endeavor-class), based loosely on the pre-dreadnought battleship Mikasa and other battleships of that era (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-dreadnought_battleship).  This model is relatively large, about 435mm long and 80mm wide, and is printed and assembled in 3 pieces.  The main fore and aft turrets can rotate and raise/lower their barrels.  The casemated side turrets can rotate as well.

This was an exercise for me in designing multi-part models and casemated turrets in FreeCAD.  The main turret design was reused from my Simple Navy Monitor design (https://www.printables.com/model/1012874-simple-naval-monitor-warship-snap-fit-turret-and-h).

Printing and Assembly:

You can use either the STEP or STL file for printing each part.  For reference, I used 0.2mm layer height and generic PLA settings on my A1 Mini.

Print out the ForwardHull, MidHull, and AftHull STL/STEP files.  They should fit together easily via the T-junction.

Print out the LookoutMast STL/STEP file.  Works best if you lay it out horizontally on its back.  The square base of the mast should fit snugly into the square hole in the Mid Hull, behind the bridge.

Print out 2 copies of the TurretHousing and TurretBarrel STL/STEP files.

The turret housing should be printed right-side up (otherwise you might need supports if printing upside down).   Although the turret holes in the forward/aft deck may have some stringing from the print, the  turret housing should be able to snap through them as you press it through the hole.  Or you can just snip off the strings beforehand.

The turret barrel is trickier, but I print it oriented vertically, barrel down, with a raft to support the build.  If you use raft or supports, please remove them thoroughly when done. Afterwards, just press the barrel into the turret housing groove; the barrel piece should flex and snap right in.
 

Print out 8 copies of the CasemateCannon STL/STEP file.  These are kind of fiddly, because of their small size and shape.  These should snap on to the cylindrical mounts on the sides of the mid hull.

Both STL and STEP files are available, along with the original FreeCAD (RC2) file, for anyone interested in making modifications or remixes.
