Description
The 2-part plate, included here, is intended to allow people to build a fully assembled “SPIES” puzzle by Alfons Eyckmans, without revealing the solution. This permits the builder to then discover how to take apart the puzzle. This can be done multiple times and will eventually allow the builder to also assemble the puzzle. First download the original Spies #1 distribution by Richard Gain, then substitute one of the plates in that distribution for this 2-part plate.

If you like the SPIES puzzle, there are 5 other SPIES puzzle designs that Alfons has permitted to be built. Simply look for these models under my name.
There are NO ROTATIONS allowed, if you wish to discover the intended solution. That is, all parts will shift up/down, left/right or backwards/forwards. If you attempt to manipulate the puzzle while holding in an upright position, you may find that the pieces (red in the picture) may rotate due to gravity. There may be non-intended solutions if you rotate parts. I often work on these puzzles on a table top to prevent unwanted rotations.
This SPIES puzzle is the first of 6 that Alfons created. Richard Gain first provided the STL files for this puzzle and you should build the original puzzle from his link at the bottom of this post (I've listed this as a remix)
Alfons Eyckmans kindly gave me his permission to post the 2-part plate that might help some builders solve this puzzle.
The plate can be assembled with either M2 or M2.5 socket head screws of 10-16mm length. (designed for M2.5 x 12)
The video below introduces the SPIES series, offers some hints on how to solve, and shows how to use the 2-part-plate to build your own version of SPIES (#1). A complete solution is also shown, although I recommend to refrain from viewing the complete solution. I do admit that I had to use all of the first 4 hints, however.
I built the original puzzle and the 2-part plate here using 0.2 layers, 3 perimeters, PLA.
