Modern Fidchell - Rules included

Fidchell is a modern reinvention of an ancient game. It takes 5 minutes to learn and will continue to reveal tricks and strategies for a lifetime. An interactive tutorial and an online version of the game is available on our new platform Fidchell.com

Experience Fidchell with a personal flair using this 3-player board, designed for color change by layer. At 250mm in diameter, this board is perfect for players who want to combine the rich strategic depth of Fidchell with a striking visual presentation. As players aim to connect their pieces to the king while capturing opponents standing in their way. Color change by layer adds a unique touch to the ancient Celtic game, making each print a work of art, even if your printer doesn’t have a color-change system.

Printing Advice

Use two colors, a light and a dark. Insert color change where the bottom of the fields are just finished and add another color change again 3 layers before the top. Add a pause on each layer that closes the magnet inside the board.

Magnets

A total of 243 magnets are used in this game, be sure to have some in spare as well. The magnets are super magnets measuring Ø3mm x 1mm, glued in place for secure gameplay. It can be a bit challenging to insert them, so make sure all magnets are aligned correctly. A helpful trick is to assemble one game piece first and use it as a reference.

Credits and disclaimer

This interpretation of the mythical Fidchell was proposed by Nigel Suckling after his extensive reading and study of sagas and myths that reference the game. In collaboration with him, we at Nye Dimser are proud to present a 3D-printable version of the game, incorporating modifications to the rules and board. To be clear - no board has for certain been found, therefore this version is based on speculation and a lot of playtesting.
