Description

For this New Year theme, the Year of the Snake posed an opportunity to challenge myself.

Instead of creating a magnet or keyring on its own, I made an item that could do both!

There are two versions of this model; a multicoloured small one, intended for exclusive keyring use, and another that has a cut in the chin for inserting a magnet. The magnet dimensions for the profile size are 18mm x 5mm, though superglue is still required to keep the magnet secure.
I've adjusted the flush volumes for the multicoloured one for use on a Bambulab X1C, and placed 3 snakes on one plate; three was the max I could add before the time and waste started to increase. This optimisation may not work as intended for the other Bambulab machines such as the A1, A1 Mini, P1S, or P1P.

THE 3MF FILE WAS MADE IN BAMBU STUDIO. It may not open in other slicers: use the RAW STL's if you cannot open it.

The colours are all Bambulab filaments. The magnets I used are from here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09PTZQFQ2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

IMPORTANT

If you intend on using the Magnet version (the big one) please be aware that no matter what support style you use, they will “fill” the hole I made for the magnet to be inserted, making it look like there isn't a magnet hole to use. You can easily remove the supports with pliers, or manually paint a smaller area if you wish.
The small multicoloured snakes have no magnet holes under their chins and are the only version designed without them.
So, I repeat; there absolutely is a magnet hole under the chin of the big version. If you turn the supports off, you'll see it, but I wouldn't recommend printing without them.

Print Set-up

No assembly is required for the snake, however, supports are necessary only on the Magnet version and the D-Ring, to ensure a clean surface for your magnet to be inserted.

  1. Turn supports ON.
  2. Set the type to “Auto - Normal”.
  3. Set the style to “Snug”.
  4. The threshold angle should be unchanged (the default is 30).
  5. Tick the “on build plate only” box.

For the X1C and other enclosed machines: Using a brim is not required on the snake, even on a Textured PEI plate. Brims must be turned on for the D-Ring. Supports are only needed on the version requiring a magnet.

For the A1, and other machines without an enclosure: Using a brim is strongly advised to keep the model secure, regardless of what plate you use. Brims must be turned on for the D-Ring. Supports are only needed on the version requiring a magnet.
