Description

For my friend's birthday, I decided to give him a bottle of Jack Daniel's. To me, a gift should have an unnecessary element to it otherwise, the recipient might have just gotten it themselves. So, I added a small challenge by building a bottle prison. Like assembling IKEA furniture, the perceived value of a gift increases when you have to work for it.

This contraption demands an unnecessary amount of bolt-loosening to earn the prize inside. The process not only consumes the recipient’s time but, unfortunately, also the time of the one assembling it.

To free the bottle, the journey starts with removing the lifting eye, revealing the first stage. This initial step is designed to make the recipient believe they’re almost done, only to lead them to the second and final stage, where most of the bolts await. Once they complete the process, it’s safe to say they’ve truly earned the drink.

Besides the printed parts you will need:

6 x  M10 x 315mm threade rods ( I cut them from a single 2m rod)

42 x M10 nut (ISO 4034)

14 x M8 nut (ISO 4034)

6 x  M8 x 80mm square neck bolt (ISO 8677)

1 x  M8 x 60mm threade rod

1x  M8 lifting eye nut (DIN 582)
