Targi Board Game Organizer

A simple organizer for Targi Board Game. It accommodates sleeved cards.

You will need 1 of each model and 2 of the player trays.

I don't have the expansion, but I left an extra spot in the resource tiles holder for the new water tokens, and there should be enough extra space to hold everything else. You'll have to double-up the new Sand Dunes cards with the Boarder cards as there's only 3 card wells.

How I Designed This

I was originally fine with just using the injection-mold organizer that comes with the game, but then I sleeved the cards and that doesn't really fit. I looked at the other 3d-printable organizers and didn't like them (e.g. giant trays, too fancy, etc). I also noticed that the Targi box was about the same size as the Welcome To... box, and I had recently printed a great organizer for that game: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/45654-welcome-to-your-perfect-home-organizer; so I decided to start by modifying that organizer.

I then did some planning, and even prototyping with Legos to help measure things. Targi has 3 sets of cards, 3 kinds of resources, 3 kinds of point tokens, 1 kind of coin, and 2 sets of player pieces. That seemed like a good way to roughly break things down. I also took a look at what the expansion adds. It adds a ton of new cards, though most of them replace the original cards, a fourth card type, a fourth kind of resource, and a few extra pieces of the other tokens. I don't have plans to get the expansion anytime soon, but figured I may as well try to accommodate it if I can for the future.

I started by removing 2 of the card wells from the Welcome To... organizer, figuring that'd leave 4 card wells for the 4 card types. I eventually dropped that down to 3 because I wasn't able to fit the other parts I was designing into the remaining space (so the 4th type of cards will have to be double-upped with the Boarder cards). Anyway, I then worked on a holder for the point tokens and coins; I was very much inspired by a recent organizer I made for Furnace (https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/87191-furnace-board-game-organizer-trays). The tricky thing here was that the point tokens are so weirdly shaped and asymmetrical. I spent a lot of time prototyping with Legos and eventually figured out basically what you see in the v2 model here. I then took a stab at the resource tokens tray. The coins being round allowed that "inset" style to work properly without them falling out, but that doesn't work for squares without turning them at a 45 degree angle. After playing around with that idea for a while, I eventually realized that I could put them in the corners, and with 4 resource types, that works perfectly. For the player trays, I looked at how much space was left in the box, and just made two simple boxes.

The first version of the model was very similar to the v2 here. The first issue I realized was that the overall model was a little too loose in the box. It turns out that the Targi box is actually slightly larger and thinner than the Welcome To box. So for v2, I scaled up the card holder to fill in the extra space (while keeping the wells the same size). The coin hole was also a little too small because the coins edges aren't perfectly flat, so I increased that radius a bit too. I also filled in some of the space of the point token wells to make it less weird; there's still some extra space there, but it's good enough, especially because you can put them in upside down or rightside up. And finally, I shortened the height of the points and coin tray - I had originally made everything the same height for the instructions to sit on top, but there was just too much extra space height-wise on that one, and it wouldn't cause a problem for the instructions anyway. The resources tray and the player trays were perfect, so I left them as-is.

One of the trickiest things for me is that my buddy has the 3d printer, so it unfortunately takes a few weeks between each try; this also makes it difficult to test and iterate on things (hence why I used Lego).
