Description
This is a game piece box with a sliding lid. There are design options for the box bottom and lid to have a mosaic pattern or solid surfaces, and flat or concave/recessed faces (on the lid). All of the lids will fit either of the box styles. I also included 'regular' fit lids, which fit fairly tight, and ‘loose’ versions. I printed my boxes and lids at 0.12mm layer height, and the regular lids fit nicely.
I have made a dice based game and wanted a box that has some design aspects reminiscent of ancient Arabia:
I made the concave lid option, because the lid will play a role in my game. Note: I have a separately designed tray or caddy for the unique pieces in my specific game, which fits inside the box at the bottom. I designed it this way so that the bottom mosaic would print nicely (no supports or bridging whatsoever), and so that the tray insert can be made of one or more different colors, making the mosaic more colorful (from the outside view). The dimensions and internal compartment of the box are specific to accommodate the size requirements of all of my game pieces and the tray/caddy. Nonetheless, this box can be used for countless purposes. One could use it for a jewelry box, or for potpourri (print a solid bottom box and a mosaic patterned lid).
I printed my examples in Bambu Labs Cocoa Brown PLA, 0.12mm layer height, with 3 walls loops and 3 bottom & top layers (concentric), with 15% rectilinear infill. I chose these settings for the aesthetics, and for reasonable strength. Warning: I have not printed this model in a thicker layer height (0.16, 0.20, etc.); printing at thicker layer heights may cause the lid to be too tight. If your lid is too tight, consider printing a “loose” version of the lid. The lid stays on fairly well just by inserting it fully.
